What started out a little chilly ended up to be a pretty nice day on Sunday. Scores from Sunday’s match have been posted to both the Practiscore and USPSA web sites, you can see the results by clicking the links. We had a great turn out and it was good to see some old friends back at the range again. I wanted to send out a big thank you to Bob, Brad, Charlie, Bill, Doc, Esther, & Ryan who all made it out on Saturday to help set-up, your help is greatly appreciated!. We also had a big group help tear down after the match, again thank you all!
I also wanted to let everyone know we will be hosting a bonus match this month. Sunday May 19th we will be doing something a little different than the normal USPSA matches. We will have 6 stages of various plate racks set up with a similar format to the Big Dawg challenge coming later in July. Those of you unfamiliar with the Big Dawg match, this is your chance to get a little tune-up and show your stuff. The match will have 2 classes, Limited Pistol (Iron Sights) and Unlimited Pistol(Optics). Each shooter will shoot each plate rack 4 times for time. You can take as many shots as you would like to clear the rack in a maximum of 30 seconds. We will add up your times to calculate the scores for each stage. So total round count will be 144 rounds (if you don’t miss). You won’t want to miss this one, it will prove to literally be a blast.
I had some requests to include the match dates we talked about in the shooters meeting again, so here you go:
2014 Iowa Fall Classic will be held at West Liberty Gun Club August 29th – 31st. We will have 8-10 stages set up with round count between 225 and 275 rounds. We are planning a lot of great things for this event in 2014 after the unfortunate cancellation last year. More details will be coming soon.
2014 Big Dawg Steel Match will be held at West Liberty Gun Club July 24th – 27th. This match is literally a blast every year. With a round count over 300 rounds this is lot of fun and a great chance to improve your draw speed. 15 different plate racks each shot 4 times. More info can be found at www.bigdogsteelmatch.com.
2014 Shoot for Heroes Match will be held at the Brownell’s range on Saturday, June 14th. This is a great charitable event hosted by Cedar Valley Outfitters and Midwest Military Outreach. All proceeds go to support our nations heroes through the Wounded Warrior Project. More info can be found at www.shootforheroes.org.
2014 Iowa Sectional will be held at the Ankeny Ikes Range September 5th – 7th. You can find match details and register at http://ankenyikes.corecommerce
We finally got to blow the cobwebs out and dust off the rigs in our first USPSA match of 2014. The weather was great and we had good turn out. I wanted to send a special welcome and thank you to Sam and Sean who shot their first matches with us, we hope to see you back again soon. The results have been posted to both the USPSA and Practiscore sites and can be found here(USPSA) and here(Practiscore), or you can go to the USPSA page under the match results tab and enter club code IA10, or just search by WLPS on the practiscore match results page. Thank you to all who helped set-up and tear down, you are all a great big help.
Thanks to everyone who made it out, we hope to see you all next month.
It has been a long time coming, and no this is not an April fools joke. On behalf of the West Liberty Practical Shooters I would like to invite you all to our first USPSA match of the year. Mother nature appears to have finally lifted her hold on winter and we are glad to get back to shooting again. We will have 6 stages set up with a final round count between 130 and 180 rounds. We will be setting up for the match Saturday, April 5th at 9:00am, if you can make it out to help with set-up we would greatly appreciate it. Final set-up on Sunday will be at 7:30am with registration beginning at 8:00am in the office (at the north end of the road). Please make sure and get signed in when you get there so that we can get squads set-up. We will have a shooters meeting/safety briefing at 8:45 with first shots at 9:00am.
We are anxious to get things rolling for 2014 and I look forward to seeing you all at the range!
